Franzen finally scores and we're safe He blows so hard. Keep wasting that top six forward slot, Johan.

True, but the Lions offense has shown it has trouble against virtually any decent defense. Best hope is for a very low scoring game with a key turnover or two. I think Rodgers mobility will buy him enough time to make some plays. Good thing the Packers don't have one of those.

Just the idea that the Lions have won several "ugly" games this season is all you need to say... Since when do the Lions win ugly games where they play far below their ceiling?
I also love the deification of the Packers by Lions fans. The Packers beat the Vikings by 3 points a few weeks ago, but the Lions beat them by 2 and they were "lucky". The Packers beat Eruff's Bucs by 17 last Sunday, the same amount the Lions did. And the Packers nearly collapsed against the Falcons, just like the Lions. The Packers have a Terminator playing quarterback for them, but outside of Rodgers, they are extremely beatable.
The Packers' Defense is as consistent and effective as the Lions' Offense. That doesn't mean I expect the Lions to waltz into Lambeau on Sunday and come out with a win, but just the fact that they have clinched a playoff spot and have a chance for a DIVISION TITLE, FIRST ROUND BYE, AND HOME PLAYOFF GAME in the first place, all while playing at a subpar level, is remarkable.

It's Pitt Cincy since that game can be "win and in, lose and out" situation. Both the Lions and Packers are in. This.

Dammit. If everyone could just exhibit just a little G-D patience and let the whole thing play out as it may. Nothing is going to happen one way or the other until December 29th anyway, so why try to force everyone's cards on the table now?

It's still dumb to think you're that prophetic. Anyone of these teams could turn into a dumpster fire over the course of one off season, Outside Indianapolis, New England, Denver, and Seattle, there's not that much consistency in football anymore. Sorry, I dont think its acting "prophetic" to think that playing the best division in football this year is going to make for a tough schedule next year. Â There are just too many variables year to year. A lot of people thought the NFC SOUTH was going to be the best division in football this season... Seattle > Probably no Marshawn Lynch next year, will probably lose more players because of the salary cap. Arizona > Who knows how Palmer will respond to his second ACL tear... The Cardinals are the only team with more fortune than the Lions this season. They have to come back to the mean a little bit. San Francisco > No Harbaugh, maybe no Kaep, and a rapidly aging defense with Smith and Willis. Who knows how they'll look next year. Rams > Probably the safest bet to improve next season record-wise, but who knows who will be playing QB for them... could be Fragile Sam, could be a rookie, could be a cast-off like RG3. You can't worry about next year's schedule.

Even if you discard the GGGG and Moss takes (which you probably should), the rising optimism from people like Tom Beaver, Brian Cook, and John U. Bacon has me believing this will happen...

I just want this frenzy that stirred up last night to go away. I'm worried Michigan fans are going to jump the HARBAUGH shark and it's not going to happen... ala the Herbstreit/Miles fiasco in '07.

I was hoping for clarification on that. Primeau wasn't the biggest bust of course, but that dude had a lot of hype and played like a big pussy. So he was Johan Franzen. :)

Why is it when Reggie Bush can't catch a pass, he pops the ball into the air?

That third goal tonight cant happen. And Howard has been great this year. Except in the shootout. The third goal was soft, but he absolutely stood on his head for 2 periods and kept the Wings in the game. And let's not pretend that Howard hasn't been suspect of letting in a soft goal or two either. Howard is probably better right now because he's in his prime, but Mrazek has a much higher ceiling than Howard ever did.

@general Do you need examples? He had several opportunities in the offseason to sign a JJ Watt level extension (or, at the very least renegotiated his current deal) which would have opened up some much needed cap relief for the Lions, and given the Lions some security that their franchise defensive player wasn't going anywhere. But instead, he dawdled around with picking a new agent for months, and when he got one, he wouldn't come to the table. Since training camp, there have now been 3 instances about him and free agency.
You said he's done everything right, and he has... for himself. Here's "the situation" Suh has put the Lions in: either he's going to force the Lions to franchise tag him at 27 million for next season (which would be insane) or he's going to hit the open and some desperate team like the Jets or Raiders will offer him $20 million per year that the Lions will have to match or lose him for nothing. There is no debate that the Lions would have paid him more than fairly for his services (see Calvin and Stafford's contracts), but he didn't want to come to the table last year.
Again, there's nothing wrong with that... It's his choice and I know he and his agent can sniff the payday. But I don't have to like it as a Lions fan, regardless of his caliber as a player.

Again, I don't think anyone who wanted to trade Suh is suggesting that he isn't a great football player. For me, I don't like the situation he has now put the Lions in because the Lions have made it known from the beginning that they will PAY him if he wants to stay. Instead, he's decided to take the franchise to the cliff edge and shake them down for every last penny he can get until he ups and leaves for bigger pastures. When posed the question about next year, he could have said "I'm focused on Minnesota, I'll deal with the offseason when the time comes." or even a simple "No comment" would have sufficed. But Suh is a smart guy with the media and he's continuing to stir up the free agency story to create an ESPN-Lebron watch type of frenzy if he hits Free Agency. And if the Lions do place the franchise tag on him, well, he'll happily continue down this path of stringing the Lions along, making passive aggressive comments about his future, and making 26 million dollars next year alone. seriously, what are you talking about? All he has done to put the Lions in this "situation" is play great, and thus he will get paid handsomely for it. Apparently you're mad at him for playing out his contract and weighing all options before deciding instead of committing to the Lions early in the process, and potentially cost himself millions of dollars by doing so? All of you guys should try tapping into more than 5% of your brain before posting. I'm not mad at him for wanting to playing out his contract and hit the open market. We all understood that was his main goal the day he signed his rookie contract that would let him get to FA in 4 years. I'm not even mad that he (assumedly) wants to leave Detroit. I don't care if he wants to squeeze out every penny from a team or if he wants to "promote his brand" or some bullshit like that. All I said was that I would have traded him last offseason so they could have at least gotten a return for him and have more financial flexibility moving forward instead of signing him to an albatross of a contract because of the open market or franchise tag. You then parlayed it into straw-man arguments calling everyone who wanted to seem him traded "fucking idiots who think the Lions win in spite of Suh" and then championing Suh for "playing out his contract," like he isn't the one making it a talking point that he's going to be a free agent... Again, there no debate about how dominate he can be on the football field. The difference is, you want to paint him as a good soldier just keeping his head down and doing his job, and I see him as a fucking mercenary.

Yea sometimes he commits a penalty. He's the worst. Also explain to me how trying to block for a defensive player after an interception so he can help him score is selfish? I'm not taking his side in the argument but wasn't that block uneccesary and away from the play? Again, I don't think anyone who wanted to trade Suh is suggesting that he isn't a great football player. For me, I don't like the situation he has now put the Lions in because the Lions have made it known from the beginning that they will PAY him if he wants to stay. Who cares about next year? Look this team is in a division race going into Week 15 and staring at an 11 win season. Worry about that crap during the off-season. Can we please stop with the "We should have traded him" stuff? You do realize they wouldn't have received anything for him and would have still been on the line for most of his salary this year. You are essentially saying you'd rather pay him 20 million to play for someone else this year. Dumb........ Enjoy the damn ride people. Quit getting caught up in all this minutia. That's nice to say, but the Lions aren't the Broncos or Patriots. They don't have a chance to win the Super Bowl this year, so they shouldn't be in win-now mode... They need to continue building for the future. If they would have moved Suh in March, they could have picked up Fairley's option for next year, drafted Aaron Donald at #10, and upgraded at 1 or 2 other positions with the return they got from dealing Suh. Now, we'll "enjoy the ride" to a first round Wild Card exit, let Suh walk for nothing, and have to possibly replace both DTs. It's about being proactive and not reactive. Look at what the Patriots did with Richard Seymour a few years ago...

Okay, so it's two minor leaguers and Cespedes for Porcello. And the Tigers are apparently trading prospects for a starter from the Reds. Who are we hoping for from the Reds? Mat Latos? Homer Bailey?
