Baligian and Marc were talking about the Lions hiring Nick Saban as Head Coach/GM. It might just work, here's why... 3. Things have been getting tougher at Bama, including his loss to OSU in the NC game. Oregon must be pretty upset that they let saban get away after one game

I think Reiff could be another cut next season. He is due 8 million in 2016 with no cap hit if they cut him. Assuming the draft a LT, I don't want to pay Reiff 8 Million them to play RT for possibly one year.Looks like 2 Tackles could be needed. :(
Never mind, Mayhew picked up his option already for 2016.

A bust is strong language. Inconsistent and injured? Sure.
Regardless, even for one year, putting Fairley's pass rush ability next to Ngata's run defense would be better than anything they currently have at DT.

He was a bust in terms of attitude. He only brought it when he wanted too. If he had brought it every down he could have been unstoppable. As a pro they shouldn't have to motivate you.
I remember fourth and goal for the game against the Bears and he blew up a double team AND Cutler for the sack to end the game.
If he and Suh would have been full time players we could have had a defense that was up there in league history.

No matter how much money one makes their will always be minority of lazy folks in every industry....I can point out a few companies locally that have engineers that makes close or above 100k that are lazy ass bums...
Fairley was a part time DT even at the college level. He only played well when it's contract year....

He makes what 100k per 15 minute quarter? I don't pay to have engineers entertain me.

If your definitition of bust includes lacking motivation, then sure, Fairely is a bust. 75% of first round picks must be busts then in your mind.
To me, a bust means you simply can't play. Ebron is a bust. Fat Jamarcus was a bust. I don't consider Jahvid Best to be a bust, but I know others do... The few times he was healthy, he showed he could play. Sure, logically, taking a concussion-prone RB with a first round pick was one hell of a mistake by the organization. No debate there. But as a player, he showed that he could play.
Back to Fairley, I wasn't saying the Lions should have extended him or given him a new contract. But I would have liked to seen his option for THIS SEASON be picked up. It's not like you went out and signed anyone with his money anyway.

My definition of a bust is a dt taken in the 1st round that isn't good.

My definition of a bust is a dt taken in the 1st round that isn't good. Or at any position. No, specifically a dt. You can't take that position there without knowing they are good. There are reasons why positions carry more weight in the draft.

A QB at 1, or a DT early, or a RB at 5 have different expectations. Jesus Christ this mb isn't even remotely fun to discuss anything.

Unfortunately he got rolled up on a dirty play against Seattle.

Should I make a draft thread or just post everything here? Not a lot of traffic on this board so I wasn't sure.
I did start looking at some free agency stuff. It's going to be interesting to see what Buffalo does cap wise to try and get their LT Cordy Glenn resigned. They also want Incognito back. I'm sure they will find a way. I know everyone is crazy for Okung but Glenn is a rock solid LT who could cost much less if he tests the market.

With the dead money the Lions have coming off of the books, they are in pretty good shape cap-wise.

They're in ok shape, not great. The dead money comes off, but Stafford and cjs numbers both rise, so do others if I remember correctly

Yeah, but from the day CJ signed that contract it was pretty well known that he wouldn't see the back end of that deal. a lot of that money is not-guaranteed.
