Is it that hard to find a back-up QB? I wonder why they cut Conner Cook (I thought he was the ideal back-up)?

Just muddling through this abomination of a baseball season and waiting for football. Life’s going good. You? We've seen a lot of bad baseball seasons in Detroit. Where does this season rank on the all-time worst list?

Yzerman's first draft in Detroit:
6. Detroit Red Wings: Moritz Seider, D Team: Mannheim (Germany) Ranking: 15 | Nationality: GER Age: 18 | Ht: 6-3 | Wt: 208 | Shot: R Stats: 29 GP, 2 G, 4 A
Scouting report: One of the most intriguing players in this entire draft, Seider is a strong skater for such a big guy and sees the ice particularly well. He can make plays at the offensive blue line and does a good job of absorbing and evading pressure in his own zone. There's some risk because Seider didn't have a ton of reps on special teams and in key situations this season, but he should be able to get those next season. -- Peters
Team fit: The Red Wings do not have a ton of depth among defensemen in their system, but this was a shocker of a pick in Steve Yzerman's first draft. The value among the forwards still on the board is significant. You'd have to think the Red Wings bring him to North America immediately and allow him to develop in their own system in the AHL. -- Peters
Where Seider is most likely to play in 2019-20: AHL
ESPN Grade: Detroit Red Wings: B Favorite pick: Robert Mastrosimone
Let's talk about reaching. The Red Wings definitely went a bit off the board to get Moritz Seider, but I like the player. Had they traded down, perhaps no one would have batted an eye. But in the end, they got the guy they ultimately wanted. Where he goes from here is a bit of a mystery because of the relatively small role he played on his German pro team. There's no question he has talent -- we just need to see him in more situations. I also thought Antti Tuomisto was a really risky pick where the Red Wings got him, but I don't mind the bet on a towering defenseman who is still pretty raw.
The Red Wings get a higher grade despite the risk because of the value they got out of the middle-round picks. I really like Mastrosimone for both his skill and competitiveness. Albert Johansson has some legit skill and poise, too. Albin Grewe is a physical forward with some limited offensive upside, but I've long been intrigued by his toolbox. And my favorite bet that the Red Wings made? Elmer Soderblom, a 6-foot-7 forward who needs a lot of work. But I think he skates well for such a big man, and he has some hands. If they hit on him, he'd be one of the more distinctive forwards in the game, given his size and apparent skill. Whether the Red Wings reached early on, they made their system better at this draft.
Draft Selections For The Red Wings

Pistons Draft:
Post-Draft Analysis Detroit stopped the minor fall of Sekou Doumbouya, making him the first non-collegiate international player drafted. It was the first time since 2013 that no international player went in the lottery.
It will be intriguing to see how Doumbouya is utilized in Detroit with Blake Griffin under contract, as there might not be too many minutes available for Doumbouya early on at his natural position of power forward. As the youngest player in this draft class -- Doumbouya won't turn 19 until late December -- the Pistons can afford to be patient with his development. And they likely view his selection as an upside play, as Doumbouya easily could have been considered a top-10 prospect in this draft. Coach Dwane Casey will like the athleticism and multi-positional defensive versatility Doumbouya offers and will likely find ways to get him on the court, eventually, as his skill level evolves. -- Jonathan Givony
Cavs land final pick in first round Cleveland Cavaliers get: 2019 No. 30 pick (Kevin Porter Jr.)
Detroit Pistons get: Four future second-round picks Cash

The Milwaukee Bucks are trading guard Tony Snell and the 30th pick in Thursday's NBA draft to the Detroit Pistons for forward Jon Leuer, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Pistons now have the 15th and 30th picks in the draft. Milwaukee saves $4 million in salary this year, and remove Snell's $12 million salary hit in 2020-21.

I wasn't a huge fan of the Juwan Howard hire, didn't hate it....just didn't love it. But it's hard to argue he will not work hard and not find success when you see how much passion he has for his dream job. Even if I liked it at the time I wouldn’t after the press conference. He didn’t seem to know his direction which is something most people would need to produce in an interview to get the job. Sounds like it was a homer hire and I’m concerned it will be a disaster. He has no head coaching experience. Michigan needs to quit doing this shit. Warde looks and sounds like a buffoon. They were going to take a step backwards this year, with or without John Beilein. So I hope you and others will give it a couple of years to see.

The NFL Network had a really good show on last night, about all the 2005 NFL draft flops. I'm not sure if this made me feel better or worse about the Lions 2019 draft (I think maybe a little better), because the theme of the show was basically nobody knows anything. It was actually refreshing to see the NFL network be real and take shots at itself, its league owners and GMs. Just a few notables from the 2005 NFL draft: Alex Smith #1, PacMan Jones, Braylon Edwards Troy Williamson, MIKE WILLIAMS, Matt Jones, and Cedrick Benson They had a pretty good segment with Matt Millen's son and Steve Mariaucci discussing how bad they didn't want Millen to take Mike Williams. I was devastated after that pick. I just wanted to turn off my tv. I’m definitely more of an offense guy but there were two or three defensive studs taken right after that pick. I kept thinking: which one of these studs are we going to get? Ware is probably going to be a HOF and while Merriman flamed out after a while he would have had decent years here. Derrick Johnston was the other one. It sounded like Ware was supposed to be the Lions pick. They made it sound like the war room had all settled on Ware, and Millen had a last minute/second change of heart (no pun intended). Most of the room was shocked by his pick. They played an excerpt of Steve Mariucci's interview right after that pick, and he looked a little shaken and bothered by it.

Looks like the site is about dead. Not that there has really been much to talk about. I don’t think anyone left really cares too much for the Pistons and their mediocrity. I will say I really liked the Lions draft. If all you wanted were popular and ‘name’ guys overly talked about by tv and radio personalities then you hated this draft. BQ stuck to his board and his philosophy and got some talented and athletic guys. The defense is going to be deep and they weren’t screwing around with TE. They’re going to find one. Seems like between FA, draft, and UDFA that there are 8-9 on the roster. BQ is running at about a 68% clip with his drafts. Many of the picks we like now were hated by some fans on draft day. Give these guys a chance and see what happens on the field. Did they draft an offensive lineman? Wasn't O-line a need going into this draft?

Looks accurate to me. The backloaded at least three of these contracts and lessened the 2019 cap hit. After all that money they spent the estimate is that they still have around $32M in cap space.
What do you think it is?

At season's end, One of the big criticisms that both Harbaugh and Dantonio faced was about their coaching staffs.
Dantonio shuffled his staff, re-assigning existing coaches to new positions, but keep them all.
Harbaugh (after saying there would be no offseason coaching changes) has hired Gattis for OC/WRs, McDaniels for Quarterback coach and let Pep Hamilton go. Not to mention the voluntary departures of Mattison and Al Washington. Shaun Nua will replace Mattison.
It will be interesting to see which program will be better off with the direction they chose.
