I have a coworker whose son recently moved to Japan on a 3 yr assignment. I knew they were weird but I had no idea how weird their culture is. They make everyone in the office building wear a uniform. It includes a navy blue baseball cap, a light blue shirt, navy blue pants, one of those cloth belts and some blue suede-like velcro shoes. You are expected to wear this at your desk. They had a meeting with Honda. When they went to the Honda facility, all of the executives from both companies were in this board room wearing matching baseball caps and company uniforms.
Also, she showed me a picture of a truck that drives around taking bikes. She referred to it as the bike repo. I don’t know if it was an actual repo man or if it was actually some sort of impound truck. If you don’t watch your shit, they will take it.

In August at lunch a lady said the Spartan Troll told her there was going to be a new position in my department that would be like a three level promotion if someone in the area were to get it. The lady who mentioned it asked if I was going to apply then said she was thinking about going for it. She said the posting was going to be held until September or October. I wasn’t worried about her because there are only two people in this company who are qualified to get that job and it would have been like a 4 level promotion for her. My issue was I’m always the last to know when there is going to be a new position in this department. She said in the meeting where all of our Director’s direct reports were discussing this, the Spartan Troll suggested they consider another lady in the department. I know he wouldn’t recommend me for anything because he hates me. It was funny because he has had almost no interaction with her even though we are in the same department. The person he recommended in the meeting is a different person than who was telling the story.
I periodically checked the postings because I was going to apply. One random Monday in September we got a message from our manager asking us to congratulate the other lady on her promotion. I actually missed the email because I clicked on it accidentally (but didn’t read it) when I was trying to open another message and forgot to go back to that message to read it. I found out in my one on one with my manager on Friday of that week when she was talking about this other lady moving into this new job. At that point I had no idea how to handle that. It was probably best that I did find out on Friday as opposed to Monday because spending the entire week pissed off knowing I have a one on one at the end of the week was probably not going to be a good thing. My manager said she didn’t think the other lady would apply for the job.
I don’t think it was racist or anything like that. I think my manager was actually dumb enough to think we wouldn’t actually apply for a promotion in our own department. A couple of days later, I sent my manager an email asking something about that job. I really didn’t get much of an answer. I just left it at that because I may need a reference one day soon. They don’t give anyone an office with a ceiling and door. Damn near the entire company is in different sized cubicles. It makes it impossible to have a private conversation. Someone in another department told me they saw the posting and said it was on the website for like 2 days before it was removed. The way this was handled, it’s obvious to me that I wasn’t going to be considered for that job regardless. It’s my fault for missing the job posting. It’s my fault for getting complacent in this position. I never should have stayed here this long. This is 100% on me. What pissed me off the most is that I know that new job is not that difficult. It shouldn’t be classified as high as it is. The title they gave the job is not reflective of the actual responsibility. I found out later that you give HR a job title and a description and they will respond with a pay grade. There are three jobs in this department that have that same title and are compensated at a managerial level but one of them I wouldn’t touch with a 10 ft pole. The other is kind of iffy.
The person who got promoted had the same job as two other people in this department. One of them works part time and the other has only been here for a year or two. Both of them will probably retire in that job. In theory we all have the same job when you look at the classification. My job is completely separate from what the other three people are doing on a daily basis. The weird thing is I’m left to my own accord. My manager has no idea what I’m doing on a daily basis. It would be a lot harder to replace me if I left because no one else knows what I do. There are other people who have attempted to it when I was on vacation but it usually didn’t go very well. If I left today, it wouldn’t fall apart. They would figure it out eventually. Everything would be cool until there was a problem. They would have to get the IT department involved to investigate a lot of the stuff that I investigate on my own. Our entire IT department is entirely made of contractors. It costs money whenever you want them to do anything. That may not be that big of a deal to my management because it isn’t their money. Why should they give a fuck? The biggest issue is IT has to start from scratch whenever they investigate an issue because those people move around so much. They rarely have the same people working on our projects because they are all contractors. Sometimes they just up and leave or get moved to other places by their employer.
There was a specific type of job that I was waiting to be posted. It was posted a few weeks ago. That’s why I posted on the other board about managers being auto-notified whenever we apply for a job. That was fine by me. I didn’t necessarily care if I got the job or not. I’ll eventually find something. I wanted to see how my manager was going to react. I believe they assumed I was going to stay here forever.
I applied for the job on a Sunday. I know my manager got the message at that exact second. Monday morning my manager shows up at my cube and says something to the effect of “I see you applied for a new position. Why? What happened?” LMFAO. What happened? Seriously? What happened? That wasn’t rhetoric. My manager really didn’t know why I am attempting to leave this department. We’re having this discussion in the middle of the department. I’m being told everything this individual can think of as to why going to that department is a bad idea. That job wasn’t even a promotion. My manager was thoroughly offended that I was applying for a lateral move.
Last Wednesday or Thursday my manager asked me how much time I spent working on certain systems. That seemed like such a random question to ask. I had a feeling they were trying to do something with my job or my title. In my one on one on Friday I was asked if I was going to continue to apply for other jobs. I said hell yeah. I was then told they want to try to reclassify my current position to a higher level. They have to submit paperwork to HR then wait to see what happens. Applying for a job scared them enough that they figured they better do something. At this point it won’t matter. It won’t be classified at a high enough level for me to stay. It was reiterated that applying for a lateral move wasn’t helping this person sleep at night. They need to know that I’m not leaving because of something that happened. So what if that is the reason I want to leave? It’s not like they are going to or can do anything about it. God forbid someone not want to work here. I’m supposed to keep this quiet until they hear from HR. With any luck I’ll be gone before HR responds.

I hadn’t been to this forum before. I entered it looking for the white collar thread. We haven’t had the same shit show we’ve normally had to deal with in quite a while.
Edit: I just thought of something. I asked the guy who is the massive Tiger homer to check one of his systems to see if he can see options “View Data” and “Batch Summary”. Sounds simple enough. His response was “Yes, I have VD and not BS.”

The Spartan troll made sure to let me know that Michigan lost last night. I don't know if his obsession with Michigan is worse than my obsession with his obsession.

Some are saying that the mystery candidate offered by Colin Cowherd is Gus Malzhan. His wife is an extra recruiter that you don't have to pay. This would be a great hire.

I wonder who the mystery name is that Cowturd was talking about. Gun to my head, I don't think that we are pulling anyone from the NFL. I think it's probably Mora Jr.
