1989 was my jr year in high school, and those pics are totally what I expected to see. Nice little walk down memory lane there.

Forgot just how much hair spray was required in the 80s. Wow.

Forgot just how much hair spray was required in the 80s. Wow. That and the high waisted jeans and everything stone washed. And all the clothes were loose fitting too.

Record stores used to be so big. Remember when cassette singles came out? What a waste of $$.
Bachrach, Merry Go Round, Hudsons, Kings Court, all those stores were hot when I was a senior in high school. JCPenny once upon a time was pretty popular too. I always dug Hudsons.

I worked at Bachrach for about 2wks. The little manager there tried to act like we selling precious metals or something. Took the shit way too seriously. Hudsons was awesome all the way back to the 70s when I was a kid and we would go to the downtown location and shop for christmas presents. They had a section where you could drop your kids off and they would be escorted through a part of the store so they could buy gifts for their family without the adults knowing what they were getting.

I wish I had been around when the old Hudsons was open downtown. Sounded cool as shit.
We had 2 Hudsons in Saginaw, one in the mall and one downtown. I used to dig shopping there, although it was way over priced. When Macy's took it over it just wasn't the same. I spent a lot of $$ when I was a kid on Nautica jackets and Fossil watches, lol.
The best part of the mall back then was no kiosks. That shit didn't start until the late 90s.

I think people still go to the malls as well. I think it's a good place to go to get a overall slice of the general culture. And people watch. I usually go once a year at Christmas just to look around, on a weekday.

Malls are still packed! There is no question. I was in Fairlane last Saturday and it was dead. Always like to go to the food court though.

I was at Oakland Mall today for the first time in a few years.. Had to return a gift the wife bought...
Sad sight to see what has happened.. I was there about 20 minutes walking around and counted 14 empty / closed stores. Could have been more but that was all on the way to where I was going, didn't travel the whole mall.
I was senior in 91.. That place was packed daily.

What amazes me, is the concept of a shopping mall makes sense, especially in Michigan when the weather is bad more than half the year.
Who wants to drive to each brick and mortar stores, like Kohls, Bed Bath and beyond and Barnes and Noble (across from Oakland mall).
Wouldn't it be better to park once and then be indoors, rather than in and out and parking multiple times?
