It didn't cost Arizona anything. They have the cap room and Chychrun is a much better prospect than the guy the wings got.
Sure, the trade was good from the Wings perspective if you don't take into consideration the fact that they had to make that deal and drop 4 spots in the draft because Holland signed a bad contract in the first place.

Here's one thing I don't understand about the NHL draft and the Wings. The wings have not had many high draft picks for most of the 25 year playoff streak. In other sports it seems as though "good" teams find ways to move up in the draft with relative ease. Take the New England Patriots, they have been stockpiling draft picks and moving forward and backward in these drafts for years. Why can't the wings do something like that? Even if it meant trading one year's pick, to get a higher pick the following year.

Without question the Coyotes got the better prospect. I will say if the the Wings fail to make a good deal in this off season, then this trade will benefit the Coyotes more. Because getting cap room for nothing will be just as horrible as any other deal Holland has made.

Because getting cap room for nothing will be just as horrible as any other deal Holland has made. Can't have it both ways though. You HAD to make the deal to give you the cap room to potentially make a move. If he doesn't make the deal then everybody's bitching cause you got the dead money on the books. Bottom line.....it is a wait & see situation.

Yes it is a wait & see situation, but all I am saying is if they don't get better from free agency it was for nothing. Why get the cap room IF you don't improve the team? Now if Holland does improve the team, then it becomes a good trade from the Wings point of view. Freddie was pointing out the Coyotes believe they did pretty good from their perspective.

I'm not interested in any of the free agents outside of maybe Okposo (putting him, Larkin, and AA on a line might be the fastest line in the history of hockey), but he's probably going to be too expensive.
I'd like to see Kenny get on the phone with Colorado and see what it would take to get Matt Duchene.

5 years for helm. Holland's contracts are borderline fraudulent. He knows he has a senile owner and is distributing his money to his buddies.

Holland has been bad for years. Is anyone surprised? This was predictable

I think this is actually worse than I could have predicted. The helm signing was absolutely nuts. No way he would have signed anything like that with a good GM.

Well the Ericsson and Abdelkader contracts are even worse so that didn't surprise me at all. He has a history of doing the same stupid shit.

The biggest issue seems to be the length of these deals. They are now stuck.

I guess I was thinking inverse water finding it's level theory. Clearly I was not correct in that thinking.

This going to be a very tough season to watch, outside of Larkin of course. If they are going to play these old guys they singed in FA & resigned their dead weight over the younger players, I will not watch to many games this season.

Ex-Wing Quincey signs with Devils Associated Press 2:57 p.m. EDT September 28, 2016
The New Jersey Devils signed former Wings defenseman Kyle Quincey to a $1.25 million contract for the upcoming season. Executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero announced the agreement Wednesday. The 31-year-old Quincey is entering his ninth full NHL season after spending the last four-plus seasons with Detroit.
Good thing the Wings didn't have any cap room. Holland would of signed that human pylon to a multi-year for a few million per. Holland loves those veterans.

Didn't we pay him 4m a year and give up a high draft pick? Holland is redonk.

If I recall correctly, I believe Holland gave up a 1st and paid him pretty good money. Neither was warranted.

Holland has become like the senior citizen with Alzheimer's, he can't be trusted to be alone.

The smoke & mirror show has put 6 W's on the board in a row. Nice to come out of the box hot! Nice to see Howard look impressive early too. May actually be able to get some value for him later.
