I think I would have taken a flyer on Collins, with their last pick. The reports are that he is not a suspect in the murder case. Draft him as a late rounder, and if something comes to light just cut him.

Some comments on the picks:
Abdullah- Really like it. I was listening to Sirius break him down a couple of weeks ago and they brought up the fumbles and pass pro issues, and their comment was "just about every RB has those issues in college, and it is up to the coaches at the next levelto clean that up."
Carter- Wasn't a huge fan of giving up a 5th to move up 8 spots, but I get why they did. They made the trade after PJ Williams was taken, which tells me he was the last of the 3rd Round type of CBs or higher on their board. He can also play Safety and CB. If they didn't make this trade, and Carter gets taken, Gabe Wright is the pick at 88.
Wright- Good value here, and because of the 3 coming back next year in comp picks, I am not Super upset about giving up the 3 to get him.
Burton, Diggs, and Robinson- Don't know enough about them, but no issues with the picks. People say you don't draft a FB, well GB did as well. It is evident to me that Detroit is making a concerted effort to be more of a power running team. When was the last time that we could point to them and see the plan in place? It has been a while.
With the exception of Carter, and I am not sure about Robinson, all of the guys that the Lions drafted were captains on their team. I think that says something as well.
Now about La'el Collins. No problem with not drafting him. He didn't want to go Day 3, because he stands to make more money over the next 4 years than if he gets drafted in the 6th or 7th round. Him getting drafted would have also allowed him to sit out a year and re-enter the draft. The rules state that if you are undrafted you cannot go into the draft the next year, but if you are drafted and you never sign with the team that drafted you, you can go back into the draft pool.

Lions picked up a RB from South Dakota State named Zach Zenner. He had 3 consecutive 2,000 yard seasons and is intriguing. If anything else I really like the idea of using on as a Kick Returner.

1st round. I'm fine with them taking a guard, but thought the pick might have been better served to go with the DT Brown, since they got Manny in the trade.
2nd round. I was ok with them going RB, but wish they had taken Coleman over Abdullah. Not a big Abdullah fan between the fumbles and the bed shitting in big games
3rd round. Again, I'm fine with them going CB here, but wish they had gone DT
4th round. Finally DT. although seems like a dude who has motivational issues and pretty decent Senior year regression
5th round. wish they had gone DT again. couple of decent guys still there, including Bennett. FB is dumb, probably could have gotten one int he 7th or UDFA.
All in all, I'm ok with what we got, the above stuff is my nit picky criticism. There was no WTF moment, like Ebron last year (5th round FB maybe, but its the 5th, so whatever), and I'm thankful for that.
I give them a solid B

I also caught that they were bypassing highly graded guys like Coleman, Brown, and Bennett at times to take their guy. The grades I've seen so far had them at A- for day one and day two with a C+ for day three.

I am in the solid B camp as well.
I get Abdullah over Coleman and I am fine with it. Coleman has more top end speed, but is also coming off of surgery and has less intangibles.
I am not upset about taking the FB in the 5th. PFF has been raving about him and how he will help the run and pass game.
While a lot of people (raises hand) wanted Bennet from OSU, a lot of players went before him, so I am not going to kill the Lions for not taking him. These teams know way more than any of us do.

Feels like they did better with their 3rd round pick and below.

MGoBlog skewers the Seattle Seahawks for drafting Frank Clark....
It's a remarkable failure that hurts all parties involved.
