I'm told at one point the officials took a ball out of play and weighed it. Should hear more tomorrow on this subject.

From what I saw they didn't really need any type of advantage. The Colts were awful.

It seems that the NFL Officials are not familiar with Charles Law.

The New England Patriots had 11 of their 12 allotted game footballs under-inflated by 2 pounds of air (PSI) less than what's required by NFL regulations, according to league sources either involved or familiar with the investigation of Sunday's AFC championship game when the Patriots beat the Colts 45-7 to advance to their sixth Super Bowl.
More from ESPN.com Assuming the initial inspection was done correctly and weather wasn't a factor, the Patriots should be punished for deflating footballs, writes Mike Reiss. Story
"We are not commenting at this time," said Greg Aiello, the NFL's senior vice president of communications.
Troy Vincent, the league's senior executive vice president of football operations, told ProFootballTalk.com earlier Tuesday that the NFL expected to wrap up its investigation in "two or three days."
Yet to be determined is what, if any, penalties may be imposed upon Patriots. One source described the league as "disappointed ... angry ... distraught," after spending considerable time on the findings earlier Tuesday.
Part of the investigation that still needs further vetting is how the 11 footballs became under-inflated. The game balls provided to each team for preparation were required to be inspected and approved by referee Walt Anderson two hours and 15 minutes before kickoff before they were returned to each team.

No alteration of footballs is allowed once they are approved, under league rules and regulations.
The balls are required be inflated between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds per square inch and weigh between 14 and 15 ounces.
"We have been in complete cooperation with the league and will continue to do so," said Patriots spokesman Stacey James.

Don't the officials check all the footballs before the game? didn't they notice then if they were underinflated? What about the officials during the game? How many officials handle the balls between every play? At least 2-3. Didn't they notice it? I mean if the Colts defender noticed it right away after he made the interception, how do the refs not notice it if they are handling the ball after every play?
Also, if they inspected the balls at halftime and found them underinflated, what did they do then? Did they inflate them at halftime (you know, right before the Pats offense exploded) or let the Pats continue to use the underinflated footballs?
There are a lot of unanswered questions here.

You would think with so many inspections that it would not have been an issue. The question is what's the penalty?

If this happened to the lions, they would definitely be kicked out of the super bowl. I'm actually surprised that hasn't happened already.

How do we know it isn't weather related? Did anyone measure the PSI of the game balls the Colts used?

How do we know it isn't weather related? Did anyone measure the PSI of the game balls the Colts used? I am sure they have ruled the weather out. Belicheat gonna cheat. Thing is the penalty will just be a fine and maybe a draft pick that the Pats don't care about. They are still in the SB. If you want to punish them suspend Belicheat for a season.

i haven't seen any evidence of cheating. I haven't seen any evidence that the weather did not cause the lower pressure. Now, if they measured the PSI of the Colts game balls during the game and they were fine, then there is a much stronger case.
I am not saying is was not a deliberate act, but there is not nearly enough evidence yet to make the assumption the game balls were deliberately deflated.

How do we know it isn't weather related? Did anyone measure the PSI of the game balls the Colts used? 40 degree difference needed as calculated by some mgoblog nerd: P1/T1 = P2/T2 P1 = 12.5 psi (minimum allowed) + 14.7 psi (atmospheric pressure) = 27.2 T1 = ? P2 = 10.5 psi (2 psi drop) + 14.7 psi (atmospheric pressure) = 25.2 T2 = About 40 degrees Fahrenheit = 278 Kelvin Solve for T1: T1 = P1/(P2/T2) = 27.2/(25.2/278) = 300 Kelvin 300 K = 80 degrees Fahrenheit

Every winter my under inflation indicator goes off on my vehicles. I always need to add air to my tires in the winter.

This ball deflating thing is reaching idiotic levels. I mean seriously, these people are fucking morons Troy Aikman: Patriots punishment should exceed Saints bounty punishment Ravens DE: Deflated footballs bad as PEDs Really? So taking a little air out of a football is worse than coaches paying players to try and hurt other specific players? or players taking drugs that make them better than they should be and potentially knocking more deserving players off of a roster?

The whole thing is dumb. The advantage would be minimal. They are shoving it down everyone's throats and making a bigger deal of it than it really is. Even Luck said people are blowing this out of proportion.

It's getting to the point, that this "deflate-gate" and the Mashawn Lynch refusal to answer interview questions are taking over the Superbowl talk, and that pisses me off.
I know we still have another week to get to the Superbowl, but I hate all this gossip crap. Talk Football.
I heard that Mark Brunell was on ESPN crying about the under-inflated footballs!

Stuff like this is why I've really lost a lot of interest in the NFL over the last 5 years. I can't stand the Mike and Mike type non stop NFL coverage.
