I have to agree. Even though I'm done with his bullshit we need the douchebag. It's to big of a risk to take. Giving Suh a contract compairable to Watt or McCoy with a defense that still has a few needs is just being desperate IMO.
You could easily take that money spread across the entire defense and be a better unit, instead of having a great DL with an subpar secondary.
but if you lose suh, your D line goes to mediocre along with the secondary. keep suh and the d-line elite. I don't understand how you can let a guy hit the market with that type of talent? He's the best DT in the league and he makes the Lions D what they are.

The Lions Defense is further along than both Houston and TB. You pay your studs, especially when they are the best at their position. Also, if you are on the side of letting him walk to spend money elsewhere please let me know what you are doing with that money and who you are spending it on in Free Agency.

I don't think you fuck with a good defense. I think the Valenti narrative made a hell of a lot of sense when the defense wasn't any good, but not as much when we have a top 5 unit.

Suh is the lynchpin for that entire defense. He makes the ends better. He makes the LBs better. He makes the DBs better. You have to keep him around.

It was an emotional game and he's just a weird dude anyways, that is most likely why he was so emotional.

I dont think franchising him is feasible financially without completely fucking the future. pay him what he wants and be done with it. I dont thin he gives a shit who pays him as long as he gets paid

Why is franchising bad? Don't you pay him the average of the top 5 players at his position for one year? The average for DT was 9.6 million in 2014. I assume he will be the top paid DT if he signs a contract.

That's crippling a franchise and only a bad frachise would entertain a salary like that

What did that defense so against good teams? Yes, it was great on paper because they had a weak ass schedule. The defense has major flaws and got exposed for the lack of talent in the secondary. I would rather pay Fairley and get a upgrade at CB and you'll be better off than keeping SUH and watch Levy walk in another season or two.....

Yeah I remember seeing that. How does it get that high if it's the average of the top 5 players at DT? 27 million seems like it is the top paid players in the league at any position.

"An "exclusive" franchise player—not free to sign with another club—is offered a minimum of the average of the top five salaries at the player's position as of April 16, or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater."
Was Suh making $23 million last year?
edit - yep
"The Lions have a big decision on their hands regarding star defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. Suh carries a $22.4 million salary cap charge in 2014 and his contract will become void in 2015, leaving the Lions with a huge cap hit and little else in return."

Promoting his lack of basic people skills etc?
