Cespedes I believe is out the Tigers price range and they need to sign JD to a big contract. The free agents they signed this year do not get me excite for this up coming season. I only saw Zimmerman once last year and he was ok, so this isn't a solid evaluation of him. His fast-ball (velocity good) was 93, but as the commentator said it was flat and no movement. Hopefully the man has a great season for them and has many quality starts. Maybin is better than Gose, but that's not saying much. Chris was right, they need to sign more relief pitching. Also CB I have listen to 2 shows, doing a pretty good job.

I suppose trading for relief pitching was an option, as well

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A day after trading right-hander Adam Warren, New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman dealt lefty Justin Wilson to the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday for minor league right-handers Luis Cessa and Chad Green.
Like Warren, Wilson is eligible for salary arbitration. The 28-year-old went 5-0 this year with a 3.10 ERA in 74 appearances.
Before joining the Yankees, Wilson pitched three seasons for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He went 6-1 with a 2.08 ERA in 2013, but his ERA increased to 4.20 in 2014.
Detroit has been adding bullpen help, acquiring closer Francisco Rodriguez and signing right-hander Mark Lowe.
''Justin provides us with a power left-handed arm,'' Tigers general manager Al Avila said.

The Tigers gave up two guys who, if they end up having a MLB role at all, are likely 7th-inning relievers at best. Wilson has a really live arm, and he's just as good at getting right-handed hitters out as he is against lefties. Wouldn't be shocked if he becomes the primary setup man by July...and they have him for three more years. Very nicely done by Avila.

From what I read other sites have written up Wilson as a very solid pick-up. For suggestions on other shows, I would stay to your strengths. You have good knowledge on the farm systems and the draft you broke it down for us on here. Also you have great ideas on trades and free agents. Just keep bringing your knowledge of MLB and baseball geeks will listen.

Thought some of you baseball geeks would like this. The last opinion caught me by surprise and I still would be shocked if Cespedes comes back to the Tigers.
MLB analyst praises Tigers' offseason moves The Detroit News 4:50 p.m. EST December 16, 2015
The Red Sox, Cubs and Diamondbacks made the splashy moves this offseason, but Richard Justice of MLB.com writes the Tigers have had the best under-the-rader offseason.
“Oh sure, Jordan Zimmermann was the kind of impact signing that gets everyone’s attention,” Justice wrote. “Less noticed has been a series of small moves by general manager Al Avila that may have transformed Detroit’s bullpen from a weakness into a strength.”
Those moves include trades for closer Francisco Rodriguez and left-hander Justin Wilson, and the signing of Mark Lowe to bolster the back end of the bullpen.
All of a sudden,” Justice wrote, “Tigers manager Brad Ausmus will have more late-inning options than he has had the past two seasons.”
The Tigers’ offseason could get better. On “Hot Stove,” an MLB Network show, host Harold Reynolds and Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com were asked where they thought the top free-agent hitters were headed. When they got to outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, both said the Tigers.

Hope the above is true. Sounds like a bit of a stretch to say the bullpen has gone from a weakness to a strength, but I'll take a serviceable to slightly above average bullpen.

Yeah, I touched on this in the first segment of last night's show...the bullpen seems much improved, but if you base it strictly on projected WAR from Fangraphs for next year, it still ranks 28th in all of baseball. Projection systems can be very strange, and WAR isn't a terribly effective tool when analyzing bullpen performance, but I'm hesitant to call the remade bullpen a strength.

Dan Haren's twitter is @ithrow88 and he was tweeting while on the exercise bike. There was some absolute gold there.

Is it 5 or 6 years for $125? I've seen both figures on Twitter.

I like it. I'll like it a lot better if/when we can trust this pitching rotation and bullpen.

Who has the two year opt out, the team or the player? On WTKA, they were talking like it was a team option. I've never heard of a two year team option on a $100+ million deal unless the player was a coming back from severe injury.

I wrote a story about this, but it's not up yet, so whatever. I think it's a really solid deal for both sides. Upton and Cespedes are pretty similar players, except Upton is two years younger and he walks more. Cespedes is a better defender, but whatever. Wouldn't be shocked at all if Upton has a career year in 2016 or, more likely, 2017.
