Saw yesterday on a scorecenter update Babs said if team wanted him here "like me enough, they would keep me here".
So is he gone?
I'm thinking yes and he Bolts(no pun intended) for the Leafs.
I think it's clear he's done here.

Would be surprised if he went to Toronto, but I do believe he is gone. That comment yesterday sealed it for me.

Who cars. So the wings will go from barely a playoff team to barely a playoff team.

Unfortunately I believe he will be elsewhere next season. He has been here 10 years and won a cup, so I wish him well. This team needs better talent, if it wants to win another cup. The defense is poor and their 2 best players are close to retirement. They have a couple good young forwards that will form a good nucleus for the future and their goalies are solid. Holland needs to upgrade this team and find a new coach who can put it together. Next season will be interesting to see who comes back and who leaves.

I sort of don't get why it's unfortunate. I think this team needs new blood.

Weren't there Internet rumbling a couple years ago that FA's weren't coming here due to not wanting to play for Babcock?

I say unfortunately because Babcock has been a good coach and the team has performed well for the most part of his time here. I will look forward to see new talent here and what type of coach they do get to replace him.

Babs has been a fine coach but I really don't give a sh1t if he leaves. It's not like we will hire Dave Lewis or something.

Maybe he'll eventually get the Leafs to just barely making the playoffs every year. Or maybe not. I feel like he kinda rode the hot streak that was going on when he got here and then things eventually evened out to what we have now. I think this is a Babcock team. He wasn't winning or just missing a bunch of cups before he got here.

The Wings paid a lot of money to keep Blashill at Grand Rapids when other teams wanted him for an NHL gig.

McLellan has walked from the Sharks, Babs to San Jose?
Anyone interested in McLellan? What about a stop gap while Blashill learns as a nhl assistant head coach?
Not saying Blashill isn't the future, but for a organization that takes baby steps with players(to not rush them too quickly), I guess I'd be more comfortable with a 2 or 3 year care taker.

And only scored 2 goals in two games when it was all on the line. I was kidding with that post of course, but I'm still bitter about that series.

I think he's gone. It's been that vibe all year. He's going to Toronto. It'll be a big contract.

I've read before (I forget where, it was on reddit, I think a Cross-checks blog from ESPN) that if Babs walks then the 2 main candidates for the HC gig would be Blash or McLellan if McLellan walks. Well, McLellan walked, can't blame him really because the situation in SJ has been a dumpster fire for a few seasons now. Am I interested in McLellan as our HC? Yeah, because he was a big part of the coaching that helped bring us the Cup in 08. He is a quality coach and if you talk to SJ fans they're far less pissed at McLellan in so much as being pissed off that Doug Wilson hasn't been let go as GM. I would say that it's 75% likely that Blash is called to the big club if/when Babs walks, 25% likely that McLellan does well enough in the interview process to be hired. I wouldn't mind Blash being the next HC either FWIW. I have a feeling that Blash will be a good coach for whoever he goes too, hell if you listen to him speak to his team and the media he sounds damn near like Babcock without being as demanding as Babs is. He still expects the best of the team, but from what I've heard he isn't anywhere near as much of a perfectionist as Babs. Wherever Blash goes he will be the next hot young coach, and I would like us to have him if Babs does go. I think Babs is the best coach in the game...there's a reason that Team Canada went with Babs for 2 straight Olympics (and oh yeah, he lost maybe 2 games total during that stretch), and he coached them to gold both times. No doubt he is the best coach in the game from an X's and O's stand point. We didn't even have Scotty here as long as Babs has been here. Players tune out coaches after a while and it all starts to sound like the adults in Peanuts to them. Not saying that's RIGHT...it's just what happens. And don't forget, before he was here he was the coach of Anaheim when they beat the Wings as an 8 seed (in 4 games to boot) in 03 and they lost in Game 7 of the Cup Finals. So he's been successful before coming to Detroit. Took a team last year that should've never made the playoffs and while we did get destroyed by Boston we did at least make the playoffs.

Toronto would be stupid on his part No doubt. I get he likes to put teams together and be the guy who solves problems...but he also has said numerous times before he likes WINNING...and there is NAFC that he wins in Toronto in 5 years or less. Hell, the Oilers would probably be better set to win before the fuck the Leafs are. The Oilers have a ton of talent, and by being gifted their 4th 1st overall pick in the last 6 years they'll either get McDavid, or they'll get a Lindros style deal where they'll either trade McDavid for a ton of picks/talent or trade the 1st overall pick for other picks and depth players. Buffalo wouldn't be a bad landing spot for him either...that owner has the pockets and the will to get a team together.

Yeah they announced on the big show today that babs can talk to other teams and would have to give up a 3rd rounder if a deal was made.
Well one less fucking car in downtown nville won't hurt my feelings. Traffic was insanity today

I agree with some of you who believe Babcock is not going Toronto. It is my opinion neither parity have interest in one another. Because Babcock & the Leafs both know there to far away from contenders for the cup. Hell they would be lucky to make the playoffs in a couple yeas. So the mutual interest would not be there..I believe it will be a team who has not fired their coach yet and they made the playoffs this year, but they want to take the next step towards the cup.
Do any of you believe the Wings really want Babcock back? I am starting to question that narrative. At first I thought the Wings really wanted him back, but why would they let him test the market? Babcock & Holland are having a starring contest & we will see who blinks first

I think for sure the red wings want him back. They would be silly not to How can he seriously come back, after this whirlwind tour of NHL clubs? Just seems odd to me, that the Wings have NOT made the big commitment, and he's out shopping himself around.
