His luck was a bit more fortunate than Corey Smith's. My brother is friends with this guy through his business partner, who played football with Konrad at Syracuse. Apparently Konrad is a money manager for NFL players and was meeting Chip Kelly for dinner and they were going to go fishing that evening. So he took his boat out on his own to drive a couple hours up the coast to have it serviced beforehand. Along the way, he figured he would troll fish for a bit. While 9 miles from shore, he hooked something and went to adjust the reel and set the line when a rogue wave hit his boat from the side and caught him off guard... Knocking him off the back. The boat was on autopilot and he couldn't catch up to it no matter how hard he swam. He said he could have grabbed the fishing line but was worried he would be hooked and dragged behind the boat like fishing bait. He could still make out the tops of the tall buildings in Boca to get his bearings. With the current, it took him 16hrs to make the swim, and he ended up almost 30 miles north of Boca when he finally made shore at 4:30am. During his swim, he was stung by jelly fish, and had a shark circling him for about an hour. By the time he reached shore, his quads had swollen to more than twice their size from the inflammation and lactic acid (the lactic acid levels were triple what you would find in someone who ran a marathon) and he couldn't walk. He had to crawl to 2 houses before finding someone who was home I answer the door and find this 270lbs man laying on their doorstep in only his boxers. He mentioned (also in the article), that at one point- the coast guard flew right over his head, flashed their light on him and still didn't see him in the chop. They still haven't found his boat. Fûcking crazy that this guy survived Rob Konrad: 'I shouldn't be here' es.pn/1BZNsJZ via SportsCenter es.pn/scapp

Update, I guess they did find his boat:
"His boat was found near Grand Bahama Island on Deadman's Reef, the irony of the name not lost on Konrad. He had gone the other way."

Ironically, the credit card thief, Gotlieb was rocking this theory today, talking about how it's a money grab. The guy, manages portfolios for some of the biggest names in the NFL... I've never met him myself, but I imagine he isn't hurting for money. Apparently he is suffering from some pretty big PTSD right now

It would have been strange if he grabbed the fishing line and ended up hooked. Ultimate fish revenge.

Being stranded in the middle of the sea or ocean at night is by far one of the scariest things I can imagine ever happening. Just the thought of what could be swimming under you freaks me out.

Les Stroud did an episode of Survivorman where he was lost as sea. Said it was one of the worst survival experiences that he had.
