Yup. We have plenty of room to maneuver as well SportsTrac has them with $4.2 mil left. Not sure how they would have fit those guys in. Fairley's hit is $5 mil this coming season.

Are you aware they switched to a 3-4 in cleveland and Rubin graded out pretty strongly as a 4-3 guy? Youre talking about using rookies and players who dont play as starting and rotational DTs to replace Fairley, Suh and Mosely. vs signing a guy with a strong track record to a low $$$ short term contract. I really dont see how you think your solution is better. Its idiot logic Fairley CAN be a top 5 DT when he's motivated. Mosley will be a career backup unless someone take a huge chance on him. Suh is gone so he isnt apart of the conversation. Ngata and a rotational DT is better than any combination that we have had here not named with Suh. Im not convinced Knighton will be a better solution than Ngata nor even Fairley if he's not eating himself out of the NFL. The Lions current situation isnt as bad as you make it seem.

Thats what it sounded like last night. They would/will get the comp pick in the 2016 draft. It's the following season after you lose them you get the pick if any.

A minor restructure of calvin or stafford. they have plenty of room. They have 17 mil of dead money dropping off next offseason. A minor restructure to free up 4-5 mil would have been mice nuts.

who said anything about Ngata? Obviously knighton isnt a better solution than Ngata. My whole point was to pair a guy like knighton WITH Ngata

The problem is, theyve done nothing to improve. theyre basically standing pat, the same thing they did in 2012. they re-signed an old balls CB, they replaced Suh about as admirably as could have been expected, but didnt replace DT depth or sign a great DT2. they still have a hole on the oline (or 2) and need a RB.

But as it currently sits, they don't. All these restructures do is create the situation they're in now, almost $10 mil in dead money for Suh, who isn't on the team anymore. They gotta pay the piper at some point. Maybe they're tired of kicking the can down the road. Or holding onto their options to see who shakes loose during/gets cut elsewhere at the end of training camps.

Have anyone notice GB just let their entire defense walk in the off season?

Makes perfect sense honestly. He didn't say anything about Suh's talent. That was never in question. But already having CJ and Stafford's contracts, can you imagine trying to fit in Suh's cap hit next year? They would have been restructuring everyone. Kicking the can down the road.

At the rate the nfl is going, I'd be willing to bet in the next 5 years you'll see some kind of one time amnesty to clear dead money. They'll pick some number, $5 mil, 10 mil, whatever. Teams will be able to get cap relief by paying a 100% penalty to clear the space.
Wanna get $5 mil in dead money off the books, gonna cost $5 mil in penalties. They'll use the monies for concussions or something.

No, they dont.. thats what happens when you restructure the same guy multiple times stupidly. A minor restructure to clear a few million isnt going to create any kind of fucked situation. especially with the dead money situation, the length of the contracts we're talking about restructuring and the cap continuing to rise. youre talking about a few million here, not backloading a guy, who's only signed to a 5 ear deal and doing it TWICE.

With the exception of the teams that really suck balls (Jacksonville), every team in the NFL does simple restructures to push salary.
