For post paid carriers I recommend T-Mobile especially if you're in urban areas all the time. Their plans are the cheapest usually and they don't have any overages. As far as phones go if you're an Android fan I suggest looking at Motorola's phones. They're producing some of the slickest phones available right now. The LG G3 is good too, but for the love of God avoid Samsung unless you're going with the Note 4.

Sprint and Verizon coverage is pretty spotty here, too. I will look at Motorola.

The Moto G 2014 is a good phone if you're not a spec whore, and it's under 200 bucks for the phone. moto G 2014 info www.motorola.com/us/Moto-G-2nd-Gen/moto-g-2nd-gen-pdp.html

I have had to deal with them on a corporate/professional level. They are bad people. I refer to their logo as "The Death Star." But I will check out the Moto phones.

I like the limited edition phone with the football texture on the back. The bamboo is good looking, too. Not sure if I want to spend $525 for an unlocked phone, though.

For a flagship level device 525 isn't too harsh to shell out. And with Motorola's credit program it can be paid out over the course of around 18 mos IIRC

And just for everyone to know I swear I'm not a paid shill for Motorola. I just recommend their phones because they are very well designed and are a quality product for the dollar IMO

And I don't want to pay that much for a phone. I'm trying to save dollars and shift as much money as I can into retirement savings. I'm at that age where it is total priority to save, not spend. Every bit helps.

Even tho I'm in my 20s I'm trying to save money for retirement to be ahead of the game

My parents and grandparents place upnorth in the sticks can only get verizon..Nothing else works..Also, when I rode to the UP this year I never lost my signal...Interesting..

I have a Verizon air card that I use with my laptop when either our internet drops at home, or when I am traveling. Not very good coverage at the house. 1-2 bars, 2g on a good day.

I have family that have the same situation up north but the service is spotty where they are too. They can pretty much only get Verizon but they have to sit in a certain part of the house. My dad has a place a few doors down from them and if he sits in his kitchen he can get AT&T. If you stay by 75 where the towers are then your usually ok. Once you move away from it it's iffy.

HOFF data coverage and voice coverage are totally different. It is not surprising you have 2G data if you are in the country.
The voice coverage should be much better.
I would also not suggest an unlocked phone. Great for international travel but shitty stateside. Our cell companies use so many technologies that unlocked doesn't really mean unlocked. You can get a GSM phone but that locks you into att or Tmobile.
I have worked for 2 of the big 4 and can give a pretty open view of what is going to work for you. My family has pretty much every carrier since they are so spread out across Merica

I would say Verizon for voice coverage regardless of where you go in the USA. Their network is the oldest which default to giving them the bed coverage due to having more time to build the network out and fix it.
Pm/whisper me your zip and I can do some research for you.
As for the Motorola comment. The phones are solid but run a little differently. Even with the generic android set up I don't like their overlay as much as Samsung. However Samsung is all bells and whistles and way low on the reliability scale

had iphone4s since 2011 when it came out, but the way the new iOS is, I could tell it was getting groggy, but that happens with every phone and newer firmwarre
just wanted to get a new phone, and I don't regret my 6+ purchase, it's almost like having a mini tablet in your hands...it's awesome

Get an iDong plus like me. Chicks dig the big iDong. Eliminate the tablet.

I ended up with an HTC One. Got a good deal. Still learning the features, but so far, so good.

I dumped Sprint today. I've been with them since my first cell phone in 2000. I got tired of not having a cell signal in my own house, even with an air rave machine. Tired of not having a signal in the middle of Ann Arbor. We went up north a couple weeks back and couldn't find a signal anywheres. I switched to Verizon and ported all 3 of our phones over. Got a new Galaxy 6 for me and my wife. We'll see how they work out.
