What's the report on the guy we picked? People like it? SVG said on the radio this morning that they had Ellenson rated as the #10 players on their board. He was thrilled Ellenson fell to them at #18. Stan said they didn't even work him out, because they never thought he'd be there at 18. Draft Analysis The Pistons got one of the steals of the draft in Ellenson. For much of the year, he was ranked in the top 10 on my Big Board. He slid late, based on concerns about his lack of athleticism, but he's one of the most skilled big men in the draft. He can shoot 3s, has an advanced midrange game and is big enough to play center and rebound. His versatility should allow him to thrive, and I actually really like him long term, as paired with to Andre Drummond. Positives Skilled, athletic big man Very polished in the low post Has shooting range out to the 3-point line Very nice mid-range game Good mobility Excellent motor Negatives Legs are a little heavy Not an elite defender

Seems strange that you barely even look at a guy 7 spots from where you draft. Is he that busy?

What's the report on the guy we picked? People like it? He was once a player that was considered a lottery pick. He's a big stretch 4 forward. Exactly what SVG wants in his offense. The only downside is that I dont think he can shoot the 3 consistently enough to open the floor up. Other than that he was a double-double guy at Marq...

The only thing i would argue is that his ability to knock down the 3 isnt as consistent as we are being told.

It's the right pick. Just something about a $8 million a year gm laughing about not seeing him play much rubs me wrong.

Pistons nearing an agreement with All-Star center Andre Drummond on a five-year deal worth about $130 million, according to a report by ESPN’s Marc Stein, citing league sources.
The agreement is a key piece in keeping the Pistons’ young core together. Among their starting group, Drummond, Reggie Jackson, Tobias Harris and Marcus Morris all are under contract through 2019.
----------- The Pistons reached an agreement with Ish Smith on a three-year deal to solidify their bench as their backup point guard, a source told The Detroit News on Friday. Terms of the agreement were not immediately available.
Smith, 27, has played for nine teams in six years, including the Pelicans and Sixers last season. He was traded from New Orleans to Philadelphia — his second stint with the Sixers — for two second-round picks in December.
At 6-feet, 175 pounds, Smith is regarded as a speedy, athletic and smart point guard. He averaged 14.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 7.0 assists, starting in all 50 games, with the Sixers. Smith started just three of 27 games with the Pelicans, posting 8.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.7 assists.
Smith will back up starter Reggie Jackson and likely will come at a low cost, as he made just $1.1 million last season.

I cannot believe that there is not some "free throw whisperer" that can be brought in to help these guys like Drummond, Shaq, etc. Shooting free throws should not be that difficult. Perfection is not required, but it should not be too much to ask to get these guys over 60%.

Either you have it or dont. If he's struggling to shoot 35% what the hell does he have to do to shoot 60%. Free throws are critical in late game situations and because the NBA didnt change the rule it will be more critical throughout the 4th quarter.
Get used to watching him sit in tight situations.

I agree on the mental side of it, that is why I used the term "Free throw whisperer". I meant some sort of sports psychologist or something to get these type of player right. And I would say free throws are 75% mental and 25% physical. Form and technique do come into play. The better your mechanics are, the more shots you will make, and they your confidence will grow. Just checked the stats. Shaq was a career 52.7% career free throw percentage. Drummond is 38.6%. Ben Wallace was 41.4%

Uh oh, didn't know about his nerd score.
"Finally, Smith registered a nERD score of -7.2 last year, which was the fifth-worst among all guards in the NBA. In other words, a league-average team would be seven wins better if he didn’t play for them at all."

Good luck moving the ball around in that offense. I guess it's good that Thompson seems to be a rational person, so he will just be 3rd fiddle.

Irving and Westbrook on the same team would be hilarious.
