If they're guilty, then let them pay a steep price.
But one thing bugs me about this, and deflategate: The commissioners and media are letting the fans drive the outrage. But they do not consider the bias of the fans. Naturally, a winning organization is going to have many, many haters. I just feel like the NFL/Goodell (and looks that way in this case) was sitting back gauging fan outcry and anger. It's simply the wrong way to do things.

The difference between this and deflategate is that this is a Federal Crime that we are talking about. Not a hack story about the natural effects of weather on balls.

The punishment shouldn't be weighed on public outcry. Learn from Goodell's bad example. The seperate leagues should sit down and work out a plan before these things happen. If they aren't proactive then they are going to be holding the bag when something unexpected happens. Waiting until winter or league meetings may be too late and after the fact. With the billions in sponsorship and tv money it makes sense to be proactive. A quick unprepared decision against a team or player could be the wrong punishment and cost you some of that business. The NFL is still in the doghouse in the court of public opinion about Ray Rice and deflate gate happening within the same league year makes them look like a bunch of amateurs.

It will be interesting to see how high up the organization this goes.

MLB's response should be interesting if the Cards are proven guilty.
The penalty should be extreme. Send the message it won't be tolerated. EVER.
I'd love to see forfeit of an entire upcoming draft. No comp picks, no nothing. You lose a FA where you would normally get a pick back, nothing. Ban the team from trading for that year too. Since that's what they hacked.
And those directly involved with the hack, banned from baseball for life.
Extreme and will never happen. But it would send the message.

If you can't bet on your own team and then sway the outcomes of your games to win money then what is there to live for?
