No reason to cut him. Designate for assignment and put his ass in Toledo. They're paying him anyway. Let him pitch there to see if he can straighten himself out.

He has no real reason to refuse the assignment if he wants to in the bigs this year. The Tigers are desperate for bullpen help. They're his best chance for a spot.

I think he just wants to collect a check at this point.

I just can't imagine Nathan accepting an assignment to Toledo. There's no upside to it for him. He can refuse and stay with the Tigers, or get released and either join a team that actually wants to use him, or sit at home and collect his check. He's one of the better closers in MLB history...no way would I spend the end of my career playing in AAA.

I think his problem is that he's never REALLY struggled.. He cant accept that he's getting old and losing some of his skill and doesnt know how to cope with it and compensate for it in other ways. He blows and so does our pen in general. The rest of the team would make them legit contenders if the pen wasnt an abortion and what's baffling is the DD really did nothing to try and fix it

If he shows anything, we wouldn't be having this discussion. At best they're going to bring him in on a minor leaguer deal to prove himself. He can do that here. On a team desperate for relief pitching.

On a team desperate for relief pitching. For a very minimal salary, someone would give him a shot. The Mets gave Valverde 20 innings last year, and this year he's trying to make the Padres. Teams would certainly take a look at Nathan, and if the best they could offer is a minor-league deal, then I imagine he'd just accept his money and call it quits.

If the Tigers put Verlander on the DL, I can see them using that time to give Nathan one last shot to show something. He'll have until Verlander is coming off the DL to be better than whomever they would be sending down in his stead.

They better score a lot of runs this year.

Yup.. lineup and starters shoudl be fine, but that bullpen is exactly the same as last year, if not worse

The lineup is what I'm looking forward to. Cespedes should make a huge impact batting and fielding.
The starters are beginning to worry me. They don't have a lot of room for injuries. Depth is an unknown at this point.
The bullpen, same as it ever was. Gas pen baby! Get the matches out.

I have a LOT of concerns about the rotation. Price is great, although he does have those occasional strange outings where he gives up like 7 runs. But Verlander is hurt and coming off a brutal year. Sanchez's was hurt again last year, which seems to happen every season, and his strikeouts were way down. I like Shane Greene a lot, and I think other people will too, but he's bound to have some serious bumps this year, and I think Alfredo Simon is basically a hard-throwing bum.
