The one thing I didnt like about RIU was that you have to book your dinner reservations every morning and if they fill up, you're screwed. So I ended up getting up early every morning to be there when the reservation place opened to make sure we got where we wanted to go for dinner. They only let you book for the day of and the next day.
At Barcelo, we booked the whole week the first day and then were able to change during the week if we wanted to.

I don't like having to make reservations all the time. Sandals always has a few restaurants like that, but there are also options for no reservations every night.

So we eat at the good restaurants at night. The only place that was set up like that was RIU. Sandals, Royal, and Barcelo all allowed you to make all of them at once

Jamaica and Dominican run right around 3000, give or take 500, depending on seasonal rates for an upper middle class hotel. Mexico was slightly cheaper, St Lucia was more like 5k. Anyway, we loved the Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe in the Dominican. Stayed at RIU palace Tropical Bay in Negril Jamaica, loved that as well. The Royal Playa Del Carman was nice in Mexico. Couple of notes. Minor language barrier in DR, they speak Spanish. you can get by with 2 seconds of patience. Jamaican resorts are a little older looking, but rooms had been updated. Also, avoid montego bay area of jamaica, its loud due to airport traffic. I just looked at the Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe in the dominican and got this which seems like a great price Barceló Bávaro Palace Deluxe 05/03/2015 - 05/09/2015 2 adults, 0 children Room Deluxe All Inclusive Early booking special offer + free airport shuttle Final price (Taxes included) 1,479.00 US$ read that as you "booked" lol

Wife was thinking that is where she might want to go...I really dont care....I just want Hot weather, Clean rooms, beautiful ocean, and good booze where I can frolic around in a banana hammock with a red drink in one hand and a blue one in the other....

I stayed there a couple of years ago. We liked it a lot and would go back. All the Sandals resorts are pretty similar, but the nice thing about that one is that it has a private island which is pretty cool to go to. We mostly just sat around the pool and drank at the pool bar.

check the sites.. they'll say adults only.
Riu, there were some kids. Barcelo had two parts, one that allowed kids and another that was adults only. Sandals was no kids in St Lucia, not sure about the other sites Royal, i dont remember

There is nothing to do in Lakeland it is basically flint town south. (No offense to flint). In Tampa you can do anything you want its fucking Tampa. And Orlando isn't far either.

I'm planning on going to one game while we are there. Then I want to take a whole day just to fuck around outside. My wife wants to go to a beach, and I'm down for that. We're going to go Mon and come back on Thurs probably. Be there half day on Mon and Thurs. I don't want to do any of the disney or other orlando stuff. Mostly I just want to go somewhere warm for a few days and see the sun.

Alright Joe and others,
Brother, Sister and I are heading down to Clearwater Beach, FL next week to enjoy a few days of young people things before heading over to Grandpa's in Bradenton to live out the rest of the week eating Werthers, drinking ginger ale, watching the news and playing shuffleboard.
Any Clearwater Beach knowledge I should be made aware of?

I don't think Nick has kids. Primary concerns are probably pizza and drumstick availability.

What are you looking to do? Kids? No kids? Absolutely no kids. Pretty much what Gekko said, just add Cheez-Its. Outside of those items, pretty much just quality bar/restaurants or other things you think are worth someones while to go to. Ages 30, 27, 22 and likes to party.

Where are you staying?
The staple in the area is Shepherds. Big party spot on the south side of Clearwater Beach. The Frenchies locations (rockaway grill especially) are great for food and happy hour cocktails. The Canopy rooftop bar at birchwood is pretty sweet as well... And the Crows nest gives you a Great view of the pier.
Crabby bills right there on the causeway has the best roasted crab legs you will ever eat

Never actually stayed there... But it's perfectly centrally located and right by Crabby Bills and Frenchies south. Both great spots for food
