Doesn't California and Texas already have enough football teams? California has 3 (S.D., San Fran and Oakland) San Fran and Oakland are in the same metro area There are two in New York/New Jersey that share a stadium Texas has 1.5 (Dallas and Houston). Those two teams are 5+ hours apart. SA is the 7th largest city in the country, and is 5 hours from Dallas and 2.5 hours from Houston. Stadium location is proposed between SA and Austin. Austin is now larger than Detroit, and growing dramatically. (SA is also growing quickly) No different geographically than having teams in Detroit, Cleveland, and Chicago. Distances are about the same, and (with the exception of Chicago), Houston, Dallas and SA have larger populations. SA is making a very hard run at this. The city is behind it, and Red McCombs (Owner of Clear Channel/iHeart and former owner of the Vikings) is on board and working to make it happen. Spurs Sports and Entertainment Group is also helping this. Bob McNair (Owner/Texans) and Jerry Jones (owner/Cowboys) have both said publicly that they would not block the move. A new stadium site has been identified and the land developer is already working on the deal per the San Antonio News Express. All of this has been in the local news in the last 30 days. With all that being said, SA had two opportunities to land a team in the past, and in both instances, the teams used SA to leverage better deals with their home cities. No reason to suspect that Raiders organization isn't doing the same thing here. It's probably not going to happen, but it would be great if it did.
