I had a few folks last year during that huge snow season that built up big balances then took months to pay it off. I had a few folks that tried to screw me out of $$ by not paying. Already this year I've got people who haven't paid their accounts for the past 2 months. We haven't had a ton of snow, but enough that some of the accounts are getting into the multiple $100s. Not wanting to deal with that same stuff as last year, and hoping to get paid soon, I sent out emails today threatening to shut off snow service if accounts aren't paid by the 28th. There may be a big snow coming this weekend, so we'll see how that goes over. Worst part of my business is waiting to be paid. I know someone who requires a credit card to be put on file, then he charges the card each week for services rendered. I am seriously considering that option as well. My snow guy just asked for $400 up front for the season. He got paid by his clients months ago. You need to estimate what you would get in a typical season, average it out then demand it up front next year. That's what put our last lawn guy out of business. He had thousands outstanding. We paid on time but he was too stupid to cash the checks. Problem with that is, what if we get a 25 clearing winter like last year and I estimate for half that? Then I'm losing out on half of the work I do. I do about 1/3 of my snow clients with a set season price based on 12 clearings, which averages out around $400 each. The rest I charge a deposit, once that deposit is used up I charge as we go along. For my mowing customers, I do about half of them prepaid up front. I am pretty good with sorting out deadbeats on intuition, but every once in a while a couple sneak through. Most of the people that owe me money now are not dead beats, just really slow in paying.

Pretty much on average. I have a base rate for one to five inches. Then after 5 inches it goes up by about $6 per inch. The people who pay a set price dont have to pay that.

Yeah, internal. Out from under the plant umbrella and into business development/ major account mgt. I think it was politics too. The other guy, who is actually a good dude, but my resume is better, had a relationship with the hiring director.
would have been probably a 10-15% raise, increase of bonus potential from 40%/ qrtr to 60% and almost double my current stock grant annually.

The woman that runs our health and wellness program is about 5'1" and 250 lbs. It's pretty funny watching her put all these fitness programs in place and trying to encourage everyone to get fit.

A guy in my department is out for a week with the flu every single year. With vacation, sick days, funerals, relatives being sick he finds a way to miss at least a half day or full day almost every week of the year.
