Seems like an everyday occurrence now. We may as well have a thread for it. Post all links of police killing citizens here.

"It struck a nerve in myself," said Shana Sanders, a marketing professional from Atlanta, Georgia, who saw it while watching the morning news and said she told several friends about it right away. Ugh To answer your question, yeah it's a VAST overreaction. I would've never made that connection in a million years. I've seen that commercial 100 times too.

saw this today too... Makes you understand a bit more. Yes, there have been a few select incidents where cops have abused power... A couple times it was a douchebag with a badge trying to abuse his power... And in some situations... It is a cop who's a bit edgy because of situations seen in this video. In the end- far more cops... Exponentially more... Die in the line of duty than innocent citizens are killed by the police.

Huh. I just assumed cops were dicks because they were racist.

They had a 'concerned citizen' on the news from NY saying this action was an anomaly. Seriously?

I could've been Michael Garner, I'm fat and black and sometimes my temper gets the best of me. I could've been those two Officers killed, I am a cop. I could've been Jakell Mitchell, black on black violence is a 40 year epidemic.
Tired of all this hatred, tired of all this violence.

The term "black on black violence" is exactly why we are where we are today. I hate that term with passion.

So you're one of those non descriptive people that just want to generalize everything?
I absolutely get Hoff's post in the racism thread, but unfortunately some crime has to be categorized based on statistical measure. Blacks kill more blacks than any other cross over of ethnic violence. Whether it be whites vs white, Hispanic vs Hispanic or a hybrid mix of something like white on Hispanic. Tip toeing around factual description doesn't change a thing other then other than catering to your delicate sensitivities.
Blacks in general and black vocal leaders are often so quick to accuse and blame everyone else for crime against their people but turn an obnoxiously blind eye against the crime that blacks are committing within their own communities. Drawing attention to it will hopefully educate more and make them aware than there is a severe problem within their demographic and the need to focus more energy on righting the ship.
That said- I do agree that the grand standing people do to take advantage of some of these situations for personal gain- even if that gain is only "ratings" is a huge issue too.

I guess I did... You said you hate the term "black on black violence"... I asked what would be better- you said just "violence". So yeah, I'm not getting your point. Enlighten me?

The killings in NYC are heinous (vast understatement) and completely unjustified but there seem to be so many instances of cops going over the line and much worse other cops and court systems who seem to turn a blind eye to that misconduct that it was almost inevitable that something like this would occur. Now I am more than sure that all 461 of those killed were not innocent but when even 1 is and its covered up it kills any credibility that cops/courts have and leads to the madness we have now. www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/11/11/police-killings-hundreds/18818663/www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/fbi-releases-2013-preliminary-statistics-for-law-enforcement-officers-killed-in-the-line-of-duty

I didn't read the articles (yet) as it is late- but you mention the justifiable killings. I suppose many are subjective and often legality or cause is determined by a group of laymen non-professional "peers" in a jury. However, even taken into consideration that some of the legally "justified" cop shootings are debatable- have you seen a number that shows how many times the cop was convicted in the death of a suspect/victim?
I was taking a general swag in knowing I see more articles about cops being killed in the line of duty than I see of cops killing someone unjustifiably.

Also- your link does note that in 2013- those killed as victims in crimes via assault tallied 27 (down from 49 in 2012). It goes on to say another 49 died in various other capacities in the line of duty. That said- this link says 123 total died this year in the line of duty- I'm not sure why the disparity in figures: www.nleomf.org/facts/officer-fatalities-data/Moral of the story- it's a fûcking dangerous job

Ok- read first article. It says that the 461 you cited were all "justified"... So I would be curious to find out how many weren't on top of this...
