You're kind of screwing your buddy if you use the shlong box method. You should share the monthly access fee in addition to the box fee.

Just wondering..they have enough boxes fwiw Doesn't really matter if it's your parents, but there's a fixed monthly portion of the cost of cable. That's what your really saving and you should share that portion of the savings with whoever is paying it.

We've cut our cable subscription way down. We pretty much just have the broadcast networks + HBO (which they threw at us) + Internet. We also have Netflix and Hulu subscriptions, which gives us just about all we want. I do miss not having the B1G/ESPN for Michigan games and FSD for the occasional Pistons game. That said, we have no solution for watching Tiger games. We may end up biting the bullet and adding a cable tier for the summer so we can get FSD back. The Ol' Lady thinks she can deal with games on the radio but she also hates Jim Price with a burning passion. I give her radio plan about two weeks, tops...

I cut the cord. We have had no cable since we moved in July. So far I'm only using the HTPC with KODI. Watching the Michigan game live on Vipbox on a pretty good feed.

Some of you got great ideas on ditching cable. I am one of those people that have a tons of channels & we have fast internet. Hell we even carry their security system for the home. Would love to save some money, but in all honesty would I? Until these internet sites can provide the financial news, sports, & the other programs my family want to watch, it doesn't make much sense to change. One way or another it sounds like to me I will be paying a lot of money and not getting everything I want. Let me know if I am wrong.

There needs to be a much more user friendly way to do it before I would consider it. I think in ten years cable will be gone or substantially different.

We've been having occasional problems with our internet speeds lately. It always seems to be during prime Netflix & Chill time, about 8:30-ish to midnight. All other times, no problems.
The Ol' Lady thinks I should call ComCrap the next time it happens, but I detest the thought of dialing up customer service and having them make me reboot the computer and power cycle multiple times before telling me that they will make a note on my account, hanging up on me, and in the end nothing will change.
We've been close to cutting the cord on multiple occasions, but internet has been the kicker. If we are going to get our internet through comcast anyway, the only question is what else will we be buying from them (or what package are they offering us to not leave altogether). If we have no internet, I don't really care about anything else.

I bought my own cable modem to use with wow, so every time I call about service they blame it on my modem.

Totally agree on the absurd prices, but I have to say we haven't had any problems with the U either. Since they bought Direct TV, is that what they will switch us to or will there still be a choice of high-price TV?

I'm sure you could bundle with DirectTv but I doubt they would ditch their own service they've been promoting for years.

Just took the first step down by ditching Comcast and our 50 year old cable lines here in Hooterville. Direct TV is coming this Thursday, U-Verse was installed last night. Night 1 on U-Verse went w/o incident. Was able to Netflix just fine.
