Not related but I just read that the Whalers are leaving Plymouth and heading someplace in Canada next season.

Only ever went to 1 Whalers game out there. From Macomb County, getting to Beck and M-14 was more trouble than it was worth. They'd have done better in Royal Oak or someplace more central.
Damn, only 34 words.

Looks like the USA Hockey NTDC bought the arena and will move from the ice cube in Ann Arbor. I actually might offer to house a player. Compuware is only about a mile from my house. Could be a future NHL player.

30 is too many. They need to keep it out of the desert. Instead of expanding why don't we just move the Coyotes back to Canada. Florida probably doesn't need any let alone two so we can move one of those. Carolina, Atlanta, and Nashville all needed one? It's a regional sport if even that down there. For America's pastime they root for The Reds or the Braves. Baseball isn't expanding down there. They need to transplant some teams.
Weren't they talking about making less teams a few years ago?

How about instead of expanding to even out the conferences, contract teams to even shit up.
I realize no money in that, but its what's really needed for the long term.
Can't wait for Bettman to retire.

It appears Karmanos has a fetish for moving teams named the Whalers.
I'll take teams in Seattle, Quebec, and Hartford over Arizona, Miami, Las Vegas, Raleigh, etc...

they shoud retract teams, but too much $$ is involved

There are already teams in dump towns and the arizona franchise is just garbage. Expansion is a joke. Another franchise fee money grab.

Move Florida to Quebec (I'm pretty sure this was the plan with the realignment putting the 2 Florida teams in the same division as all the Canadian/Northeast teams). Contract the Blue Jackets and the Senators. Solid plan for the league then. But instead lets put another team in the desert since it's working so FUCKING well in Phoenix, and continue to wait for the NBA to come back to Seattle before moving there. This league makes no sense 95% of the time.

LA is a big market and should have a team but Anaheim and San Jose are expendable. I'd rather Anaheim lost before Ottawa.

I'm giving Anaheim a pass because they've been a successful team with Stanley Cups. The Sens have had money issues in the past. San Jose is north enough of LA that they've proven they belong. The Shark Tank is almost always sold out, even with a team that has an issue with choking in the crunch.

I actually think hockey could work in vegas. The area is starving and ready for a pro sports team. Would be logical for the NHL to be the first to go in. Arizona is a joke. Florida panthers are a joke. Carolina and columbus. They just dont draw fans.

The Shark Tank is almost always sold out, even with a team that has an issue with choking in the crunch. They are well run and that's why they succeed. They could continue to be well run in another location. Cali doesn't need three hockey teams. When was the last time water froze in either of those cities? They were made at a time when hockey was growing in popularity and overreaching. Regardless of local popularity now franchises should have never been placed there. I'm not saying to move Arizona just because their bad, hockey doesn't belong there. If making these moves at that time put hockey close to or on top and kept them there until now then we wouldn't be having this conversation. Hell Salt Lake City would have been a better spot than some of these Southern teams.
