So Chris, Couple of players.... Machado and Fields seem to be having real break out seasons and seemingly the next two called up IF anything were to happen at those positions (obviously Machado would be emergency with Romine and Perez up)..A few questions 28 games in on both.. 1. Machado - Future here? with Iglesias here is there one for him..Seems like typical trade bait for a back end pitcher..OR could he become a second baseman in the future...He is doing something he has not done and that is hit..Just wondering your thoughts on him and if he stays here 2. Fields - Is he finally putting it together? He is really having a great start to the season..An amazing OPS and really good SLG..BB up tremendously compared to his past..Still not happy about his power as I always thought he could be a 20+ per...But does not seem to have that pop..

I was actually able to talk to both of these guys on Saturday night, and hopefully I'll have articles on them soon. But to answer your questions: 1 - Unless Iglesias goes down for the year again, I'm absolutely convinced Machado will be traded. You're right that he has finally seemed to find his offensive game, but the majority of his value still lies in his terrific defensive ability. He's a good hitter for a shortstop, but I don't think he'd produce enough at the plate to be an everyday second baseman, and the Tigers would be wise to try to maximize his value by moving him. I suspect he will be part of a package that brings back a solid late-inning reliever, though I still think the Tigers may trade for a starter and move Simon to the pen. 2 - And on Fields, yes, I do think he's putting everything together for really the first time in his career. Strikeouts are still a bit of an issue for him, but he is taking a lot of walks now, he's using his speed well on the bases, and he's showing nice gap power. I will say that in meeting him he was larger and stronger than I expected, and his manager Larry Parrish thought Fields could add another 15 pounds and really start clearing the fence more often. He's a really solid defender in center field, but his arm is still pretty weak, so his future may be in left. With Cespedes and Rajai likely gone next year, I think Fields will be given the chance to win the LF job, but I'm still not sure if he's a future MLB starter, or just a 4th outfielder.
