I have been using a dell computer with win xp that I bought in 2007 and am finally ready to upgrade. I went to micro center and they showed me a Dell Inspiron 3000 I5 with 8GB of memory and a 1 TB hard drive for around $600. In the same store a guy tried to convince me to build my own which really came out to about the same price but he said the parts would be better and it would be easier to expand. Problem is if I want them to put it together it is another $130 I looked at Dell site and found this computer which is pretty much the same but it has an NVIDIA video card instead of the normal integrated Dell card. I looked up the NVIDIA card and it doesnt look too fancy Web exclusive Dell inspironlinkAnybody have any opinions on what to get or where to go or look? I want a desktop that is running Windows 7. I used to be loyal to Dell but dont care anymore. Thanks

Are they selling a lot of desktops anymore? My computer is probably as old as yours but it's an Acer and I just picked it up at Best Buy. I hate Windows 8 and up but I thought a lot of things weren't supporting 7 anymore?

They are still supporting 7. 10 comes out soon and from what I have been reading, is much better than the crapfest that is Windows 8.

The Geek Squad also went through it and cleaned off all the 'buy this' crap that gets preloaded on them and put a really decent virus protection on it that I still use.

From what I have heard Win 7 is similar to XP and Win 7 and Win 8 users are supposed to get an upgrade to 10 when it comes out (I hope)

We had 7 (office computer) and the company upgraded to 7. They did not make the jump to 8. 8 has been a disaster, from what I have read. I have not talked to anyone who likes it.

Thanks buying what you need and actually putting it together is the fun part for me, I love buying and upgrading my computer every once in a while I just bought a HP Envy last fall and I love the damn thing, it starts in like 2 sec and windows 8.1 is on point It came with a stock graphics card that was pretty weak, but I do quite a bit on gaming on my computer, so I upgraded and I purchased a 200 dollar graphics card. My next project is finding RAM at a decent price and upgrading it. I'm sitting at 8gb and I want to go up to 16gb.

I have a docking station for the HP laptop. When I am docked, I have the regualar keyboard, mouse and dual monitors. Makes all the difference in the world.

I have an 8 year old desktop in my home office. Nobody goes in the office because they are afraid to go near that thing. I need to get the pictures off it and kill it.

I have upgraded my computers plenty of times but never actually built one. I know there are videos explaining how to do it but I have a feeling I would regret trying to build it myself

Any idea where to find one? I guess I could check Craigs list but I am not a fan of it
