Nike recently made their presentation to Michigan to sponser Michigan Athletics.
The Adidas pitch was basically "any figure you get offered, we will destroy it, and continue to give you most favored nation status."
In other words, we probably stay with Adidas. However, they are working with going to a darker and more maize shade instead of highlighter yellow, which was what Bill Martin encouraged.

I really don't care much about the brand, definitely not enough to turn down cash. I'd take the most money that is offered.

The clothes are cheap and look like something a 50 plus year old michigan fan would wear. I get jealous when a I see all spartys Nike gear. Also I would be cool with UA but would prefer Nike

Adidas have real good running shoes, I switched between them and Brooks. Their football design I am indifferent about. Never been a Nike fan and UA shoes are terrible. Also UA football design seem a little over the top to me, but then I am not a high school kid.

Blake Countess visiting Rich Rod in Arizona. Makes sense, I could see it working.

Found out today that one of my new customers this year is one of the new Michigan coaches. He called to let me know he was going to be gone for the next 2 weeks doing the satellite camp thing. Nice guy though, and very trusting.
FWIW, Ron English is still here in town hanging out. He must have gotten a pretty good paycheck from EMU. You'd think he could have gotten a new gig by now somewhere at least as a position coach. His kids are young still, maybe he doesn't want to move around a lot while they are little.

Dave Brandon named CEO of Toys R Us. This means Michigan can subtract his new comp from what was remaining on his contract. Shouldn't have to pay him much.

Wonder if Brandon will hire a CFO that just sits in his office and claps all day.

Hackett says that he expects the next apparel contract to be the largest in the NCAA, which means Nike is out.

So from what I hear the Athletic Dept was all set to go with Nike. Hackett brought the proposals from Nike, UA, and Adidas to the regents, and the regents are not OK with leaving as much money on the table as they are leaving. UA is offering just a bit less than what they gave ND (10years/90M), but I doubt Michigan takes an offer to be #2 to ND. Nike's offer is a less than UA, and in line with what they pay the other big boys (Texas, OSU, and Bama), which is about 6 Million per year. Adidas is offering more, PLUS a signing bonus. Hacket is also working with Adidas on getting rid of the highlighter yellow, which is something that Brandon was working on as well.
Also, the AD was 8M in the red last year, mainly due to buyouts and doubling the pay of the new football staff, as well as ticket sales from a garbage football team being awful. I am sure that number will turn around fast, though.
