because why use your old te who can't catch, when you have a shiny new one who also can't catch? BP was significantly better in 2013, trending up. They never even really gave him a shot

Two of the under-the-radar UFA I hope The Lions can bring back are C.J. Mosley and George Johnson.

I still dont understand why they dont use pettigrew at all. Â New staff must hate him The offensive line is so bad they probably keep him in to block.

We really need to not shit the bed in the draft this year.. last year's draft was fucking awful outside of Swanson

You can't judge a rookie class after 1 season. Now I will say that Ebron was a big fucking disappointment. Van Noy had abdominal surgery and missed most of the season because of it. Lawson went to IR. Caraun Reid and Larry Webster are both late round projects with a lot of potential, but nothing was expected out of them year 1, and I would expect them to be entering into the rotation next year. TJ Jones spent the season on IR, and is a better WR than Corey Fuller, and Freese just lost all of his confidence.
There is talent there. Now it just has to develop.

Ebron was bad, van noy couldnt get on the field after he got healthy, Freese was a full blown bust. Reid and Webster have potential.
They also need to chill on BPA when it makes no fucking sense. It wasnt a good draft, period. the contributions of the rookies on this team was virtually nothing outside of Swanson.

I get the Ebron stuff but after that I'm also not going to judge the rest of the draft class just yet. I still think KVN is going to be a good player if he stays healthy.

I'll say one thing in defense of their drafting lately and giving it time, Slay looked horrible his first year. He's improved every year. You would never realize its the same guy.

The Lions played mostly Nickel Defense even when Van Noy came back. Look at the season snap counts for the LBs. Levy- 1072 Whitehead- 742 Bynes- 212 Palmer- 187 Tulloch- 140 Van Noy 51 Levy played every defensive snap, Between Whitehead and Tulloch you have 882 snaps at MLB, with Bynes filling in the rest. That leaves 260 snaps for the 3rd LB, split up between Bynes, Palmer and Van Noy. I cannot reiterate enough that you have to look at the Steeler model. They adhere to a strict BPA policy, and typically their rookies play very little their first year. I posted an article back on the SI done by Jerry Angelo about BPA vs. filling need. Here it is again: www.nationalfootballpost.com/Drafting-the-best-vs-drafting-for-need.htmlYou use the draft to build your long term foundation for your team. Then use free agency to fill the gaps. It's exactly what the Lions did with James Ihedigbo and Rashean Mathis. It is the strategy Parcells used. It is the strategy Belichick uses in NE. Ozzie Newsom does the same thing in Baltimore. Pete Carroll, same thing.

I know tons of people were all about Darqueze Dennard, but he was a total flop this year in Cincinnati. He was active for 15 games and saw a total of 77 snaps, unable ot beat out old ass Terrence Newman, Leon Hall, or Pac Man Jones.

I dont care about other people's flops.. When we have holes and misfire on our picks, its annoying. Or when we make picks for positions that we just signed guys to 4 year contracts for, its annoying. Steelers might say theyre BPA, but i dont see them taking first round TEs when they know they have their precious Heath

Neither can Richard Sherman.
Slay had a nice season, and the PFF grades show that. His private workouts with Rod Woodson helped, no doubt.

Reading the highlights of the Mayhew Press Conference on twitter.
If a long term deal isn't done by free agency, Suh is getting tagged. Either franchise or transition. Apparently Suh respects Caldwell, which Mayhew feels will help in resigning him.
The team has already decided what FAs they are going to let walk, but no names were mentioned. When asked about Raiola and Sims he said he thinks the world of them, but they are still making decisions there. IMO, he basically said they are gone.
Since the Pro Bowl is no longer AFC vs. NFC, Mayhew is going to recommend that the teams are split between 3-4 Defenses and 4-3 defenses. This way an OLB like Levy gets recognized like he should.
Mayhew is expecting the cap to be $143 Million, and he doesn't expect a Suh deal to cripple the team.

Of course not but as we've seen with Stafford and Calvin's deals when he really wants to get somebody back he makes really cap unfriendly deals.

With a cap at 143 Million, the Lions would need to clear 8 Million in space to clear Suh's entire franchise tag with him playing under it. Either way he is getting tagged. Whether it be franchise or transition. The money for each is the same, but the difference is that there is no compensation for the transition tag, so if a team signs him and Detroit doesn't match, the Lions get nothing. The benefit to that is teams may be more willing to sign him under the Transition tag knowing that they won't be guaranteed to lose 2 first round picks, but know that after signing him to a tender offer the Lions will come back and say "We will match the offer, but if you trade us (enter deal here) you can have him."

It's not the base salary that kills the cap it's the proration of the guaranteed money and signing bonus right?

depends on the deal.. each one is different. If they franchise him and he signs that deal, theyre fucked for years to come.. i stand by it. Sure they only need to clear 8 mil to get HIM under the cap. but they still have to sign 15-20 more players to fill out a roster and all their rookies. where does that money come from? restructuring calvin and stafford.. which fucks us in the future.

Cutting Bush, Tulloch, and Jason Jones will create enough cap space to clear the 8 million. Calvin's deal was going to be renegotiated this year no matter what happened with Suh. Your "Fucked for years to come" thought is totally wrong, flem.
