It's the first salary grade of the director band, so it was a big deal for me. Next grade has stock options.

My uncle is an FA in Jackson with a pretty large book of business and looking to retire within a couple of years. He called me and asked for my resume yesterday before the Lions game.

It's been too long with the current job for sure.
I just had an HCA Recruiter reach out to me today to see if we could talk about an opportunity within their hospital network. I'm intrigued...

Controller is in your purchasing group? interesting. All accounting functions for us are in the finance groups. congrats on the promotion. Controller of the purchasing function, not an accounting controller. We buy $12b of shit ever year. We are a matrix org, finance is in all areas. Ops, engineering, etc. Thanks. I worked my ass off for it. When does the job start? Does this take you off of the other project you were working?

Well, has been for a while.

What's HCA? Hard core anus? It is the biggest for-profit hospital IDN (integrated delivery network) in the country with 165 hospitals in 20 states and 115 surgery centers. Unfortunately they have not bought any in michigan yet- though rumor is they are trying to buy Beaumont.

There is no middle class anymore and a job like that wouldn't fit with that paradigm anyway. If there was sarcasm there that I didn't see, sorry on that. But seriously, congratulations on your new job. Hard work should pay off.

Thanks though, happy to being moving off this M&A project I've been on foreva.

So here is the follow up on my Uncle. He manages about $500 Million of client assets and is 2-3 years from retirement. He has a Jr. Broker that works for him and has been working with him for 17 years. When he retires his firm is going to buy his book from him for 4x his annual production (so he will get a check for between 4 and 6 million) at which point the Jr. gets the book of clients. My Uncle has another colleague that is in the same boat as he is, but has no Jr. partner, and has a wife dying of cancer. He wants to put me in touch with him to work under him for a period of time before taking over his book of clients. I am going to explore it, because that is an offer of a lifetime.

The initial convo was for a position below my current pay scale, but after discussing my history and experience further, the recruiter referred me to his peer who recruits for director level roles. We'll see if it leads to anything.
