Yep. Box score doesn't tell the story. He was involved a lot offensively as Dwight was out with foul trouble. Made a few big offensively

Yep. Box score doesn't tell the story. He was involved a lot offensively as Dwight was out with foul trouble. Made a few big offensively Box score doesn't tell whole story but it can tell a pretty good chunk of it. Like Josh Smith is in the bottom 8% of overall points per posession. Bottom six % of transitional PPP. Bottom 10% in pick and roll and bottom 12% on spot ups. You can make a pretty strong statistical argument that he's the worst three point shooter of all time. ALL TIME! And that's a guy that was using 25% of the Pistons shots.

He was the #1 option for stones and playing out of position. A recipe for disaster. Fat Pat should've traded him when had an offer.

But what's a better solution? It's clear this guy isn't going to change his offensive philosophy. He took more shots than Harden did in his first game for christs sake.
Should they have traded him to Sacramento when they had the chance? Of course but that doesn't mean they shouldn't have cut him now.

Should they have traded him to Sacramento when they had the chance? Of course but that doesn't mean they shouldn't have cut him now. They had a couple months to figure out what to do. Trade deadline isn't until Feb. No need to cut him now. Send him home and shop him. If during that time he wants to play bad enough, he and his agent will agree to a buyout which reduces the cap hit. The stretch provision helps mitigate that some but the thought remains the same. You don't let assets go for nothing. Even assets that you feel are not assets.

Smoove has a sub 7 PER Houston so far. And a usage rate still over 24. Rough stuff.
